Entrepreneur First Recruits Two New Venture Partners
A Familiar Face in the London Startup Scene
Tim Davey is no stranger to the London startup scene. He was one of the co-founders of Onefinestay, a company that was acquired by AccorHotels last year for at least $170 million. Toby Moore, on the other hand, was instrumental in the growth and success of Space Ape Games, which recently saw a majority stake acquired by Supercell for $55.8 million.
A Strong Track Record
The appointments of Tim Davey and Toby Moore are seen as a major boost to Entrepreneur First’s team. "We’re excited to add Tim and Toby to the EF team," says Alice Bentinck, co-founder of Entrepreneur First. "They are well-respected and well-known members of the London startup scene, and I’ve been super impressed at the way they approach mentoring and coaching very early stage startups."
The Role of Venture Partners
At Entrepreneur First, venture partners play a critical role in supporting teams going through the current program. They typically spend one day a week providing support to these teams, and on a rolling basis, so potentially supporting future cohorts too depending on how long they choose to remain a venture partner.
A Different Approach to Mentoring
Key to Entrepreneur First’s approach is that its venture partners have "skin in the game" in the form of vested equity in the early-stage investor’s fund. This means that the support they provide to portfolio startups carries more commitment, and the interests of mentor and mentee are greater aligned.
A Consistent Support System
Entrepreneur First believes in providing extensive and consistent support to its companies from the minute they form, all the way through to closing their seed round (around 12 months). The teams get 45 minutes a week with their assigned venture partner. "We see this form of mentoring and coaching as the most effective way to build and support early-stage startups," adds Bentinck.
The Hope for Entrepreneur First’s Future
In the long term, the hope is for Entrepreneur First to become the natural ‘stopping off point’ for entrepreneurs in Europe and Singapore who have successfully exited and are perhaps in-between ventures. With its established track record of success and a strong team behind it, Entrepreneur First is well-positioned to achieve this goal.
The Current Team
Entrepreneur First’s current team includes Jon Folland (co-founder of Nativ, which exited to Ooyala) and Chris Mairs as venture partners, while Nadav Rosenberg (ex-Groupon and Taboola) is a partner. Joe White and Wendy Tan White, founders of Moonfruit, are general partners.
